Unprocessed hair, is hair as it exist in its natural, virgin state. It contains a cuticle layer on the outside of the hair, this cuticle layer is composed of scales that are all naturally aligned in the same direction.
                 
The existence of this cuticle layer is essential to the hair for protection against the elements and is responsible for the shine and resilience in hair. Hair that is damaged is missing cuticle layers on the hair, resulting in hair that breaks, splits, tangles and is dull and faded.
